  • Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE)
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is an evaluation of a child for the purposes of determining a special education program that is performed by personnel outside the school system. You might pursue an IEE if your district refuses to evaluate your child, if you feel the school's evaluation was incomplete, or if you disagree with the conclusions of the school's evaluation process. The school personnel responsible for planning your child's educational program are required to consider the information presented in the IEE, but are not required to act on it. Parents often pay for an IEE themselves, but if it is conducted as the result of a dispute or the school uses the information contained in it, the district may be required to pay.
